In Canada primary care providers (e.g., family doctor, nurse practitioner) are often the first person seen when someone needs medical help. Improving the quality, accessibility, and integration of mental health and substance use health (MHSUH) services with primary care services offered can improve care provided and help address some of the challenges for Canada’s health care system.
That’s why CSA Group is holding consultation sessions funded by Health Canada and the Standards Council of Canada’s (SCC’s) Mental Health and Substance Use Health Standardization Program to put together national guidance for improving mental health and substance use health service integration with primary care. During these sessions, we will learn from Canadians and hear their experiences, challenges and solutions on how mental health, substance use health and primary care services can work better together.
